Avengers 2 Trailer Lands Hard, Sports Geppetto Jumpsuit

By Jameson Brown · October 23, 2014

So, take a deep breath. Marvel doesn't want you hyperventilating to the point where you can't enjoy this beautifully edited teaser-trailer drop. Trust me, they want that ticket money. In all seriousness though, we now all have a grasp on the direction Whedon is taking us, and it's a dark one. As every middle chapter tends to show the darker side of life, the after effects, the downfall of our hero (or heroes in this case), Whedon is showing us something a little more destructive than previous middle entries.

The Dark Knight sported a maniacal, explosion happy Joker who felt chaos was Gotham's best medicine. The Temple of Doom saw our beloved Indy literally turn to a dark side. And The Empire Strikes Back followed the story of Luke confonting his true self and having to fight against…yes, you guessed it, a dark side. So what makes Avengers 2 different (from what we know thus far from this trailer)? Well, the bread and butter difference lies within our villain, Ultron.

Ultron is a unique character, internally speaking. His outer shell may seem basic to the normal person, but his focus is always on strategy and "the game," if you will. He understands what detailed operations must go into destroying The Avengers, and he knows he must build a force against them to succeed. Ultron also capitalizes on mental strategy as well. His ability to isolate The Avengers as individuals will be a big theme in this film. Finally, unlike our dear Joker, he has a vision for how things need to be. Again, Ultron's vision of what he sees the future being and what The Avengers really are is going to be vital to this story.
