Comedy expert and script consultant Steve Kaplan sat down with Film Courage to discuss conflict. What exactly changes our protagonist's world? What actions (or antagonist) divert our main character into a new, crazy world. Kaplan does a great job of citing the point that a screenwriter must set up the normal world that is being changed first. Whether it is done in two pages or ten, the original way of life must be established before we can venture into the alternative. Using Groundhog Day as his prime example, we see how two worlds (the original/normal and the new/strange) are supposed to play off of each other.
