Clip Analysis: Captain Phillips

By Cameron Cubbison · October 29, 2014

The Situation

Captain Richard Phillips is going through shock as he gets examined immediately after multiple executions.

The Characters

Captain Richard Phillips

The Reasoning

Captain Phillips is disheveled beyond comprehension and is having a severely hard time understanding what has just happened. Upon examination, the weight of of the events prior come crashing down on him. Becoming aware of the blood spattered on his chest and arms, Captain Phillips begins to understand he is still alive while the other three victims are dead. This is a paralyzing thought that sends him even further into shock. As the shock somewhat subsides, thoughts of family come rushing into his mind, thus causing him to hit an emotional peak.

The Notes

– The stellar acting, especially being able to successfully convey realistic shock.

– Careful cinematography that highights Hanks' mannerisms.

– A perfectly reflective score that is composed with tenderness to the idea if "you are safe now."
