Game of Thrones: Season 3 Finale

Written by Tony LaScala Wednesday, June 12, 2013, 1:01 PM

The third season finale of HBO's Game of Thrones should have sent me into a bloodlustful tizzy, but once again the show’s writers chose to place the juiciest and most shocking moments from George R.R. Martin's third novel A Storm of Swords from the sweeping medieval fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire into the penultimate episode last week, leaving the finale to mop up all of the gory mess after “The Red Wedding.” As a standalone episode the final installment of season three lacked some of the grit and sensuality that has made the series so popular, but followed the book faithfully and placed a nice little digital bookmark at the halfway point to set the stage for next season.

Revolution: Season 1 Finale

Written by Carl Stoffers Friday, June 07, 2013, 8:19 AM

NBC’s post-apocalyptic, dystopian drama Revolution concluded its first season with an episode chock full of action, violence and conflict. The show premiered in September 2012 and was touted as a can’t-miss based on superstars Jon Favreau and J.J. Abrams being tagged as executive producers, and it has performed well enough that NBC has ordered a second season to begin next fall. It takes place in a world that has been without electricity for 15 years and features a hero, Miles (Billy Burke) who reluctantly gets involved with his idealistic niece, Charlie’s (Tracy Spiridakos), quest to rescue her kidnapped brother.

While watching the new season of Arrested Development on Netflix, I felt like I was nursing a delicious strawberry margarita; it was so good that I wanted to take my time and enjoy it and then all too quickly I was finished.

Merlin: Series Finale

Written by Bethan Power Sunday, June 02, 2013, 1:10 PM

As a writer who hails from the green hills and fog-swathed mountains of mystical Wales, I hold Merlin closer to my heart than most. The legend itself is a fascinating tale, and the TV series has brought it to a whole new audience in a whole new way.

Elementary: Season 1 Finale

Written by Becky Kifer Monday, May 20, 2013, 3:04 PM

When Elementary debuted last fall, the premise alone was the equivalent of a waking nightmare for any Holmesian purist. A junkie Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) solving cases in New York, a plucky American Joan Watson (Lucy Liu)—what could possibly be next? Holmes having a sex drive? A transgender Mrs. Hudson? It’s not like it would turn one of the most famous criminal masterminds of all time into…oh no they didn’t.

What's in a Title: Everything!

Screenwriting Script Tips
When director David R. Ellis considered changing the title of “Snakes on a Plane” to “Pacific Air Flight 121”, star Samuel L. Jackson threatened to leave the film. “Snakes on a Plane, man!” Jackson said in his August, 2005 Collider interview, “That’s the only reason I took the job: I read the title.” Clearly, the title alone was enough for Jackson, which is saying a lot, but when the title also generates a ton of pre-release interest on the Internet, it’s like hitting a grand slam before even stepping foot on the field. “Snakes on a Plane” is perhaps the best movie…
