Justified: Season 4 Premiere
Written by Jim Rohner Friday, January 11, 2013, 6:27 AM

One of the most intriguing elements of Justified has always been the razor-thin line of demarcation between the characters of Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins). Though making their livings on different sides of the law, the childhood friends share many of the same attributes: a cool head under pressure, gravitation toward loneliness, and a propensity for solving their problems with violence. The two mirror each other so well that one almost wonders what would've happened if the tables had been turned—if Boyd had been the one to have escaped Harlan County instead of Raylan.

Written by Carl Stoffers Thursday, December 20, 2012, 8:54 AM

Watching Homeland, Showtime’s Emmy-winning original series, it’s always been difficult not to feel as if you’re on a bit of a thrill ride. While the first season was rife with suspense as to Brody’s (Damian Lewis) true motives and exactly where his loyalties lay, the second season has been less “roller coaster” and more “out-of-control freight train.” New characters, notably the benevolently nefarious CIA assassin Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), and journalist/Abu Nazir contact Roya Hammad (Zuleikha Robinson) were introduced and added an element of mystery to the plot. While the newcomers to the cast added a new dimension to the series, the despicable Vice President Walden (Jamey Sheridan) loomed with a cutthroat, Machiavellian presence over most of the new season—a season that culminated with more plot twists than Chubby Checker walking down the Burma Road.

Midseason finales aren't meant to answer questions so much as they're meant to add more fuel to the fire to keep discussion running throughout months of hiatus. "Made to Suffer" may have an action set piece at its center, but it's the subtleties, the implications, and the additional questions raised that make the episode worth revisiting and discussing while waiting for the show’s return in February.

Written by Sulai Sivadel Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 8:10 AM

The midseason six premiere of Burn Notice begins with a voice over (VO) and collection of scenes of the previous season’s events. The VO used in Burn Notice is a quick way to bring new viewers up to date on the action that happens on the show from week to week as well as keeping returning viewers abreast after the midseason hiatus. Next we receive a title card and freeze frames to provide info without the need for a voice over from the main character Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan).

Written by Meredith Alloway Saturday, October 20, 2012, 5:21 AM

Why when you put a horror movie through the television medium do some people say it becomes brilliant? The first season of American Horror Story found success and once again reaffirmed show creator Ryan Murphy as a mastermind. Honestly, I stopped watching after episode three. I wasn’t hooked.
