Filmmaker Mike Ott Talks “Lake Los Angeles”

By Meredith Alloway · June 23, 2014

Mike Ott first came on the scene with his stunning feature Little Rock. He was awarded an Independent Spirit Award for Someone to Watch in 2011. Since, Mike has also completed Pearlblossom Highway and concludes the Antelope Valley desert Trilogy this year with Lake Los Angeles. The film follows Francisco and Cecilia, an unlikely pair who struggle to conquer the landscape. Cecilia is on her own, searching for home, while Francisco deals with the guilt of fleeing his own. I had a chance to chat with Ott this week at the LA Film Festival. We talk growing the script from the roots of the LA culture, his amazing cinematographer and how the industry mirrors the desert environment, both desolate and also beautiful.
