Matt Patches from HitFix made a great point a few days ago regarding the upcoming Inherent Vice and the overall year in film: it has been a darkly comic year. Between Gone Girl, Birdman and now Inherent Vice, we are seeing a new breed of comedy that goes deeper than what we knew as black humor. This is a new beast, but a beast I think everyone will nod their head and say "alright, I kind of like this. I'm just not sure why." P.T. Anderson's adaptation of Pynchon's novel is bound to shake things up at the end of this year. With its care-free spirit and one of the best assembled cast sheets in recent memory, this film has the potential to add even further depth to Anderson's near infinite talent at screen storytelling.
