The final theatrical trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has landed, and it offers up about as revealing a look at the film as we’re likely to get before it releases in just under two months. Admittedly, it remains rather difficult to piece any of it together, but we do get a good sense of the new characters, as well as a better idea of how the old players fit into the proceedings. J. J Abrams and co. are definitely channelling the original trilogy — not just narraitvely, but aesthetically as well. This time around, the galaxy far, far away looks to be in a rather grim state, which seems to suggest that not all went according to plan following the Rebels’ victory at the end of Return of the Jedi. Aside from that, your guess is as good as mine. Interestingly enough, Luke Skywalker remains notably absent from all the marketing thus far; further evidence that Abrams continues to play his cards close to the vest. The film hits theaters on December 18th, 2015.
