Jim Uhls (Fight Club, Looper), originally a playwright, discusses what it takes (for him) to be a screenwriter – the creative screenwriting process being a merging of multiple ideas.
Along with many other tips, he also recommends reading as many screenplays as you can and constantly being exposed to that format.
Note that Jim got this writing gig (or at least through the door) from a spec that was passed around and liked by Fincher.
