LISTEN: Hollywood, Attempted Stories and False Starts

None of us can stand that person – the one in the coffee shop, “writing” the screenplay, but seems to always still be stuck in the outline/beat sheet phase. Screenwriting is the actual act of writing the 90-110 page story (dialogue included). If you are not doing that, then you are not [yet] writing a screenplay. NPR covered this topic brilliantly and it is worth a listen.
