Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, The Social Network) digs up every bit of knowledge he has as an expert (a gold standard actually) screenwriter and gives us many nuggets of wisdom. He starts with what got him into screenwriting and moves into his favorite writers, films and quotes.
Sorkin says something we could not stress more: do your best to watch a film with its screenplay in your lap (either a transcript or the most updated draft). This is the “eye-hand coordination” exercise of screenwriting; and it’s a damn good one.
